Style Tips for Hiding a Baby Bump Until You’re Ready to Reveal Your Pregnancy

As a mama to be, it’s fun to embrace your new curves and flaunt that baby bump. But if you’re not ready to share your news with the world, there are some style tricks you can use to hide your growing belly until the big reveal. I’ve used all of these tricks at some point during my pregnancies using non-maternity clothing shown in the outfit examples below. Above all, make sure to avoid maternity clothing like tops or dresses since most of it is intended to emphasize a bump and the typical stretchy side-ruching is a dead giveaway for pregnancy!

Consider Black Clothing Your BFF

The color black will be your BFF for concealing a baby belly. It’s known for creating a slimming illusion so it will definitely work to your advantage while pregnant. Even though I’m about to enter my third trimester, I can still wear black and not look like I’m pregnant from the front!

Throw On a Jacket

Any type of jacket like this, but especially those that are oversized, will distract from what’s going on around your mid-section without clinging to your new curves.

Size Up with Sweaters

When it comes to wearing sweaters and knits during pregnancy, I always recommend sizing up (especially if the goal is to conceal your belly). Tunic styles and loose cardigans are always great options, especially to pair with maternity leggings.

Wear Loose Dresses

It may seem like an obvious tip, but loose-fitting dresses like one of these flowy styles are comfortable and no one will be the wiser that you’re expecting.

Add Layers

Adding lots of layers to your look will divert attention from your growing belly. I definitely employed this hack a lot since I’ve been pregnant all winter!

Wear Patterns

A patterned top or dress is a great disguise for a budding baby belly. Just make sure it’s loose-fitting or it will have the complete opposite effect.

Carry a Larger Handbag

Why is carrying a larger handbag a style trick for concealing pregnancy? With a tote, you’ll likely carry it in the crook of your arm: hence, the bump will be covered. You can also carry any larger-size handbag like this and hold it strategically at the waist or go crossbody for the same effect.
