Glamping & Making New Friends in Wadi Rum Desert

October 15, 2018

Of all the places I’ve been in my life, Wadi Rum is at the top of the list as one of the most breathtaking. It’s hard to believe the last time we went it was July of last summer, when I was pregnant with Lila. We really wanted to go back with her and it was so much fun, plus the October weather is amazing. I’m hoping we can get back at least one more time before we leave Jordan.

Glamping in Wadi Rum

We stayed for a night at Memories Aicha, one of the luxury camps you can see off in the far left corner. I love being outdoors, but I also love amenities like running water and A.C.! This camp has only been open for about six months and it was really nice—super clean with excellent traditional-style food.Whenever I stand in the middle of the desert and take a few moments to look around, I just can’t get over how incredible it is. It’s no surprise why American filmmakers have chosen to make the long journey over here to produce popular movies such as The Martian, Prometheus, and the upcoming remake of Aladdin (so bummed I didn’t get to meet Will Smith while they were filming!)

Making New Friends

While we were driving our 4×4 through the desert, we saw this group of camels and their Bedouin owners so we had to pull over for photos. I love how the guy behind me totally looks as if he’s posing for the camera!Every time I look at this photo, I crack up—oh my gosh, that crooked toothy grin kills me! These are just a few of the ancient inscriptions carved on the rocks around Wadi Rum–it’s crazy how they still look brand new. After a little convincing, this Bedouin man got me to pet his camel while my husband snapped away and you guys should see the photo he got about two seconds later. It’s both the funniest and worst photo of me EVER! I’m posting it on my Instastories if you’re curious because I don’t think I want it to live on my blog forever, haha.I have some more photos to post from the desert tomorrow so be sure to check back! Thanks so much for visiting today!
